ADSL is a fully digital, dedicated connection to the telephone system that provides download speeds up to 9 Mbps and upload speeds up to 1Mbps over PSTN lines. Internet service providers must support ADSL. The most common ADSL installation includes and ADSL modem connected to a telephone jack and to a network interface card (NIC) in the computer.
CPE is defined as any telephone terminal equipment which resides at the customer’s site and is connected to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Telephones, modems, caller ID adjunct boxes, PBXs, and answering machines are all considered CPE.

Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line is what ADSL stands for so that is of absolutely no help with your problem. ADSL is the service that brings high speed internet into your home or workplace. To use ADSL you either need a special modem or a router. In order for you to connect to your ADSL service using wireless networking you will need another device called a wireless access point. Some companies sell combined ADSL Router/Modems that are also a wireless access point. In fact that is the cheapest way to do it as you only need one piece of equipment to both give you wireless access and connect you to your ADSL Line. In addition your computer will need a wireless card too. There are two important bits of configuration you need to make on your Wireless ADSL Modem/Router, one is to configure the connection details supplied by your Internet Service Provider so that it can connect to the Internet and the other is to give the Wireless Access Point a name and configure a security encryption key (aka WEP key). You then use a combination of this key and the name you gave your wireless access point when you set it up to configure the wireless software on your computer. Yes it is complicated. Happy surfing.

Generally a modem is referred thus. It can be a modem *** router also. If you use VOIP equipment or IP TV equipment that also can be called CPE.
