You should first check with your VPN provider. I'm not sure how good the E1000 is going to be for that usage though.

As far as I am aware DD-WRT's pptp is messed up... I haven't had any success with it at the very least,, but, keep in mind this is a old version of the software and this is also ignoring that pptp isn't secure. However, the openvpn component does work . As diagnosing the connection you might have to contact the person/people who are running the vpn because the fact is I don't know if they are expecting a pptp, or IPsec, lt2p tunnel and so forth or if your connecting,but, it isn't authenticating because of a bad password/key, or if they are blacklisting a range of IP's that includes yours and so forth.
