Required Hardware : Hub / Switch, Patch Cable & Ethernet card available in all system

Connect the Router to Hub / switch and connect the computers to the hub / switch. with the help of patch cable. Make all computer with similar class ip eg: Router ip address 192.168.1.1 means for computer you give it as 192.169.1.2 / 192.169.1.3 and so on. dont repeat same ip address.

You didn't say how you connect to the internet now. DSL, Cable...

Assuming those two options, buy a cheap router, hook the modem to the router WAN port, hook the computers to the routers ethernet ports and off you go... Of course you'll need to configure the router for your connection. Not hard to do.

The only correct way I know of is with a router. You can use a wired or wireless depemding on your needs and desires. If there are more computers than ports on the router a high speed switch can be connected off the ports to expand each port by 8 or 16. The more systems accessing the link, the slower the response will be.

Take a look at my web page for details on setting up a LAN with an internet connection.

http://wamax.flexinet.com.au.

The basics:

DSL MODEM Ethernet Port Connected to WAN Port on Wireless Router. Wireless Router set for WPA PSK encryption for wireless link.

Wireless router Ethernet ports (4) Connected to NIC on pc's.

That connection will allow up to four pc's connected by cable to the router and laptops with wireless adapters to connect to the single internet connection.

You'll need a router or switch or hub to do so.

If a router or switch, connect the internet connection to the "internet" port on the router or switch with a LAN cable. Then connect any other computers to the other ports on the router with LAN cables.

Set all of your computers to "Obtain IP Address automatically". (If you don't know what this is, they probably are already set that way. To double check, try looking up another topic about this, as it surely has been answered on here before).

Then setup your router or switch per the instruction manual to however your internet connection was setup before. Often this will just involve plugging everything together as most internet providers today provide dynamic IP addresses.

Good luck!
