I am a Linux Mint user, and I have to say that if I had to choose between Win 7 and Ubuntu 11.10, I would have to choose Win 7.

My only experience with Win 7 was with the last RC before the final release, so not a whole lot of run time with it. I think I have used Win 8 more than I ever did Win 7.

Depends on what youre doing. I use both, well I use xubuntu instead of ubuntu. If you do any gaming you'll need windows 7 though
Linux Mint 11

I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 11. Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

Linux Mint 11 and Linux Mint Debian Edition can also be run straight from the LiveDVD from Boot without touching your Hard Drive
