Marc Ks solution is for cisco switches and wont work on cisco router

First make sure you are consoled onto the router.

Power off the router and then power it back on. When you see the ios extracting (you will see a load of hash signs #########), press the page break button on your keyboard.

You will now be in rommon mode. Type confreg 0x2142 and hit enter (this will set the router to skip nvram for config).

type reset and router will reload to blank config

type erase startup

go to enable mode (type en)

go to configure terminal mode (type config t)

type configure-register 0x2102 (this will put the config register mode back to default)

reload the router.

Job done

you can restore your cisco switches settings by powering down, loading up, and holding the mode button untill it flashes, then go through the boot helper. once you have done that you can copy your running config and able your self to be in the conf t mode to change your enable sceret

hope this helps
