solve DNS error! Urgent!?

please help asap! i am using an ethernet cable in my desktop, and has stopped connecting to internet with the fabled

"DNS" error message

i can ping the gateway and my IP address fine. How do I find out what the problem is? Is there an easy fix?

Open a command prompt, type 'ipconfig /all' and look for the IP of your DNS Server. Try to ping it, if you can ping it then type in 'nslookup'. You will get a > prompt, type in 'www.google.com' and see what happens. Not sure any of this will help but it might give you something to go on.

If none of the other answers work call your cable provider for the DNS address for your area. When u first get internet service the installer usually gives u the DNS address on your receipt. Then enter it in the DNS address space in your router setup & in the Windows network setup. Should work fine from there on.
