Question:
I can't log in to my EnGenious Router?
2010-10-13 01:02:18 UTC
I have an EnGenius ESR-1221 (EXT) router that works fine. The only problem is that I can't log into the router to change the settings (setup a WEP password). I have a ethernet cable plugged directly to the router, the internet works fine, and the login page comes up when I type in 192.168.1.1. When I type in the default username "admin" and the default password "admin", the window pops up and says that i have an invalid username and password. I've tried restarting the modem, Ive tried resetting it to factory settings, and Ive tried it on two different computers, both computers have problems logging into the router. Is there anyway of logging into the router? I really dont want to buy a new one.

Most people will change the password during the setup so that the defaults are changed since not changing it allows anyone to control the device!

If you don't know or remember the password, reset the unit. There is a "reset button" on the back near the antenna, press and hold it for a full reset (hold it about 30 seconds). You will have to setup the router once that is done but the default username and password will then work.

Best Buy will occasionally sell returned products so a customer could have changed the admin and password, then returned the router. Return the router and get a new one because they are great products

Assuming DHCP is still enabled, just plug your computer to the router. Once connected, open a command prompt (Start --> Run --> type "cmd" then press enter. Then type "ipconfig" and press enter. Look for the "gateway" address--that is your router's IP address.
