OpenVPN is considered to be extremely secure when compared to the PPTP VPN, and also more stable. Iphone, Ipod Touch, Windows Mobile, all work with PPTP. These are very easily setup, and just a Host Name, Login and Password will have you connected. OpenVPN does not work on such devices.

To sum up, if you are looking for high security and privacy you should choose OpenVPN. If you need easy-to-setup VPN, PPTP is a good choice. For mobile devices, PPTP is the only solution.

PPTP is a standard proposed by Microsoft in conjunction with certain other companies to help the business people and individuals maintain full secrecy of their IP address while they are surfing internet.

Facts and Advantages about PPTP VPN

It supports packet filtering, authentication and encryption. Especially, its authentication features utilizes an array of PPP-based protocols such as PAP, EAP and CAP

It is available in all Windows versions and devices like iPhone, iPad and Android as a built-in capability. The user just needs to customize the settings according to their VPN provider.

The PPTP VPN uses the well-known Microsoft backed TCP Port 1723 and hence has least chances of being blocked by the ISPs.

It can also be used for a Linux operated server with the help of the requisite software and hardware, at affordable cost.

It also gives faster VPN Speed than other VPN Protocols.

It is highly recommended for less encrypted data transfer and Streaming services.

SSL or Open VPN:

Secured Socket Layer (SSL) holds this substantial edge over the other protocols that it does not require a VPN client software but a web browser (or http) to connect to the VPN client. It is for this reason that the VPN operating via SSL protocols are termed as “clientless”. As the name suggests, this protocol operates at a layer one level higher than the IPSec, i.e., the Session layer, and needs cryptographic keys or digital certificates for authentication. These are used at both the client as well as server’s end.

SSTP is Windows based SSL Protocol developed by Microsoft. Whereas, if a user requires SSL for Mac and other operating systems, they go for OpenVPN, another SSL based VPN protocol perfect for Mac and Linux. OpenVPN also works perfectly fine on Windows, but it is highly advised to use SSTP on Windows to have a better SSL Performance.
