Copy paste of "What ever happened to IPv5?"

"IPng, Internet Protocol next generation, was conceived in 1994 with a goal for implementations to start flooding out by 1996 (yeah, like that ever happened). IPv6 was supposed to be the “god-send” over the well-used IPv4: it increased the number of bytes used in addressing from 4 bytes to 16 bytes, it introduced anycast routing, it removed the checksum from the IP layer, and lots of other improvements. One of the fields kept, of course, was the version field — these 8 bits identify this IP header as being of version “4″ when there is a 4 in there, and presumably they would use a “5″ to identify this next gen version. Unfortunately, that “5″ was already given to something else.

In the late 1970’s, a protocol named ST — The Internet Stream Protocol — was created for the experimental transmission of voice, video, and distributed simulation. Two decades later, this protocol was revised to become ST2 and started to get implemented into commercial projects by groups like IBM, NeXT, Apple, and Sun. Wow did it differ a lot. ST and ST+ offered connections, instead of its connection-less IPv4 counterpart. It also guaranteed QoS. ST and ST+, were already given that magical “5″.

And now as the Internet clock ticks, our PCs don’t use IPv5. So we’re moving onto 6."

End of copy paste

DJ you couldn't be more wrong, an IPv6 address looks something like this "2001:0db8:0000:0000:0000:0000:1428:57ab"

you have to realize we arent so far along in the history of written words. thus our lack of knowledge of past events that used to be handed down from song or dance has left us in many ways due to empire building, trading which has with lightning rapidity brought industrialization...the age we still dwell in today. MANY languages and dialects are gone forever. Few marks give us a glimpse back (the pyramids in Egypt) that will not be overwritten. Undoubtedly the concept of race was a push of science. Or of curious minds eager to catalogue known existence. As it is naturally a keen human interest to note of people from differing cultural background and they are especially noticable if you can see this just by looking at them. Quite convenient it was then for lords of old time to devide and conquer peoples based on skin color. Soon as differing tribes of people fell under one rule or another it would become keen to the doctors to learn to care for their new tools in human labor. To say there are not medical differences between men of different dietary and tehitiary backgrounds is asenine and serves only to satiate egos of righteous minded dreamers with thier heads in the sand. Extreme example of off the beaten path human beings would be the pygmies in south America and the Aboriginals of Australlia. They have severely differntly adapted immune systems and metabolisms that have proven the adaptability of humanity over time...just like any other animal. I would say that this phenomenon is only as recent as the written word...and surely has predated that in the minds and songs of victory in virtually all obscure or highlighted corners of the world. Often when I am filling out forms and there is a space that says 'race' I always write 'human'. If it is multiple choice I reject the notion. However, if requested to note 'ethnicity' THEN, I may comply....of course depending on what I feel like 'identifying with' that day...maybe I'll flip a coin?

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx IP v4

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx IP v5

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx IP v6

Computer languages runs in 2 if you ever notice....

64x2 = 128x2 = 256x = 512 etc... etc...

We just like 2 tell you that it's all about the 2s

Plus we know we are going to run out of ips in the v5 so why not go for v6? later it will be v12 =D
