Running Windows in a virtual machine under Linux won't make it any faster, even if it's a fast Linux distribution.

And a 1 Gig computer isn't really big enough for virtualization, especially of a Windows O/S.

I'd recommend that you add more RAM to your computer, and keep it either straight Windows, or dual-boot Windows with a good Linux distribution, such as Ubuntu, if you want to learn Linux.

If you run Windows in a virtual machine on that 1.66 Ghz processor and 1GB of RAM it will lock up solid.

You have barely enough performance to run either, not both. And only one program at a time, not two.

Yes there are some very small Linux distros that will run fast on your mere 1.66 Ghz processor with 1GB of RAM, but not many.

I suggest Xubuntu as it's lighter and fully featured (than Ubuntu) and can get support from the Ubuntu community, or even lighter is Lucid Puppy. You have to check if and what torrent software works.

yes you can, although it will not run any faster i mean linux will but windows 7 wont you have to give it an mount of ram usually half or so of what you have for your normal os since linux doesnt need much you can give windows 7 almost all of the 1gb but it still wont be as fast as you would like im guessing but it will work pretty decent.

and a torrent client for linux would be transmission works pretty well.

Linux/Unix is not the easiest to use so make sure you do some research before installing it maybe run it on virtual box through windows to get a feel for it before installing it for real make sure you can get all your connections working and everything once you get use to it you will be fine its like anything with something new.

good luck

that is an particularly complicated question. I have not, even with the undeniable fact that, stumbled on any actual massive difference in speed with any of the Distro's that I have tried. i in my opinion like Ubuntu... you could deploy Opera or Netscape (even with the very undeniable truth that netscape haven't got a launcher, and look at to click on it from interior the folder). even with the undeniable fact that, that is the dependencies for each particular web page that determines undemanding surfing speed. If an internet site makes use of Java, it's going to be slower to load than one which is exactly HTML. similar will be said with Flash. even with the undeniable fact that, i'm in contact by the hot Google Distro, noted as gOS. it truly is in undemanding words an alpha launch as we communicate, yet, it purely about thoroughly internet-depending, and it truly is straightforward to imagine, because it truly is in reaction to Ubuntu 7.10, that they have got replaced the code to help with speed topics.
