Question:
Why is Youtube so SLOW when I use my wi-fi?

Youtube used to be really fast but just about a week ago, it started buffering VERY slow and the videos have to pause and buffer like every 5 seconds and it's extremely frustrating. It's actually gotten so slow that sometimes I can't even watch a video. I use a Netgear wireless router- it shows the speed is 54 Mbps and it shows the signal strength is 100%, but for some reason it just recently started making everything on the internet slow down; especially Youtube. I've tried resetting the wireless adapter, reconnecting the router, and reconnecting my computer to the network, but it's still very slow. It's VERY frustrating to sit there watching a paused Youtube video buffer for 10 minutes every 5 seconds, and I'm about to get so frustrated with waiting forever for a video to buffer that I could just rip my computer from my desk smash the crap out of it with a sledgehammer. So can someone please tell me how i can fix this problem for my computer's sake?

A sudden change in internet speed could be caused by a virus/spyware/adware hiding on your computer. Try doing a full scan for those items. After that, I'm not sure what to do as you've done the other items like resets and such. There could be a lot of background items processing as well that would slow down the buffering and download process.

I actually do not think its just you having the problem,

Ever since they launched that new "HD 1080" Streaming content, There has been horrendous buffering for videos, Sometimes the little circle deal just spins forever, Sometimes the video Doesn't play at all (lolz on the inside here, The Ad's still play perfect).

But not only that, The website itself lags for me when going to the home page, or checking messages or whatever.

I've tried it on Firefox Internet Explorer and Google chrome, All three do the same thing, So does both of my laptops, so i know its not my gaming computer with a problem, That thing loads webpages as fast as you can open them.

Next time your lagging out on youtube, Try opening another window and going to another website... to see if your actually lagging.. or its just youtube itself. (which it seems to be I.M.O)

you can try and clear out your temp folders, history and caches.. like i did, but that just made everything else run better... youtube..its still slow

There could be a number of things:

1- If you have a Youtube account, click on your name at the top, on the side, click on 'Playback settings' and choose the one thats says you have a slow -connection if its not already there. That should help a lot.

2- If you or someone else on your network (internet) is using it and downloading something or something like that, it is using up your bandwith so that means that your speed is less.

Note: The computers just say things like 54 Mbps... which WOULD be amazing, but its not really. It really depends on the internet provider , to check your real speeds, go to www.speedtest.com, I've used it alot and its awesoem =]

The 54Mbps you are saying is not the actual internet speed. That is just the speed of your LAN side. To isolate the problem you have to check your internet speed. With your router connected try to access speakeasy speed test site then test your speed. Then remove your router. Connect your PC directly to your modem and do the same speed test. Compare the result. If it is the same then there is no problem with your router. Check the result if it is fast enough that can accomodate video streaming. If you get slow speed when connected directly to your modem then there is no problem. You need to upgrade to a higher speed internet plan...good luck...jexter@eastern.com.ph

Beacause it is on t.v and not on computer. So it isnt connected as much! Just go on your computer and use it and there is nothing u can rlly do but just be patient when it is rlly slow. It will be frustrating at times. Just use ur computer. If you dont have a computer i dont know how else i can help. Im just being honest! hope i helped : D

is your wi-fi password protected? someone could be using your network if it's not password protected, or even if it is it isn't hard to find free programs that can crack a WEP password. try changing your password and see if it speeds up......if it does that means someone's either cracked your password or is just using your wifi because you never password protected it. i have to start videos playing then pause and minimize them and do something else while they load. the beauty of neighbornet!

Outside of Internet is your computer slow? can you open applications as quickly as normal? are you up to date with virus checker and spyware checkers? (windows defender is free go to microsoft and download) have your computer not on the internet running fast, or normally. bit of fault finding etc

Because Wi-Fi even in the "g " mode can run at 90K/sec.

Dump the Wi-Fi and get a 100T cable to your access point.
