I was given a D-link router by a friend and connected it to my computer at home to get wireless internet. Their old network connection came up on my wireless networks on my laptop, but it asked for a password. My friend doesn't remember the password, so is there a way to reset the password for the wireless connection?

for most routers you just have to do a hard reset. that usually just involves holding the reset button for a while and lights might flash and then everything should be restored to default settings.

To get the reset button to work, you have to hold it down till the lights flash off and back on.

Here are the steps for the reset

or visit the Dlink support site.

The button does have to held a bit - at least 10-15 seconds sometimes 30. The unit has to be ON to reset.

Usually ther'es a wee hole where you can poke in a paperclip to re-set the router, this will reset everything though which may be a bad idea.

Also maybe conect to it by wire, there tends to be no security then and you can log on and change the wireless settings

On my D-Link router there was no password to start with...

Username: admin

Password:

This allowed me to get to the setup screen where I could change my password!

Not sure if you have already set a different password though!?
