If it's discoverable via SNMP, then you can interrogate it. Not all switches and hubs have a management interface though.

you cant see the switch in the network setup but you can see all the devises connected and all the routers

If the switch is not manageable then no. It won't even have a MAC address.



If it is manageable, then it'll have a MAC address and you can give it an IP address. It should show up in the ARP cache. BTW, the MAC address won't be tied to a port, it's more of a virtual MAC address on the processor/motherboard.



Cisco switches have Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) and so if you're on another Cisco device you can 'show cdp neighbor' and you'll see it that way.
