Question:
Problems with my router, router will not connect to internet?
2007-12-30 18:37:48 UTC
Okay, hello everyone, I bought a D-Link model "DI-604" wired router last year because it was on sale, just for Christmas I was given a xbox 360 from my parents. I decided I would try to hook up the router so I could go on Xbox Live and play with friends, here's the problem......when everything's connected the lights are all green, like they should be.....but when I try to connect to the internet the error "error 678:the remote computer did not respond" pops up and I can't go on the internet =(. I've reset the router (with the little hole on the back), turned off my fire wall, and tried swapping out the cables with another set...I tried "network magic" and it told me that the router couldn't connect to the internet, but the router could connect to the computer. So, if anyone here could help me, I would REALLY love it, thanks in advance!

Oh great, Well you're using a broadband router. And You've already reset it. When you reset a router, you always needs to configure the user name and ISP password. Have you ever tried to connect to internet after resetting your router, if not try to connect it to net via PC first. If its not connecting, then call your Service provider first and get your user name and password and connect the router and PC. open http://192.168.1.1 then it will ask for the user name and password which would admin in both fields. go to WAN setting now enter user name and password provided by your service provider and go to tools then Misc. then reboot.

After following these steps, you can easily connect to the internet.

Well, you didn't mention if the router was working before the xbox360 hooked up to it. I'm going to assume it wasn't.

You have to configure your router. look at the manual to find out the routers ip address. type that into the address bar in your browser. ex 192.168.1.1 and log into the router. Depending on the routers default setup, you have to change it to match your internet connection. Cable, you choose a dynamic setup. DSL, you choose PPPOE. then reboot the router. Make sure you can connect to the internet for you hook up your xbox360. If it still doesn't work, then you have to find out the port the xbox360 is using and open it up on your router.

After you (factory) reset it , it would of wiped out all your settings.

You need to (at a minimum) input your ISP login details (user ID and password) to get the DLINK connected to the internet.

After you have connected up your PC to the DLINK, type this in your browser window:

192.168.0.1

That's the default address for your DLINK, and from there you shoudl follow the setup wizard to connect to the internet. Also have a look here:

for some help too.

Good Luck!

wellllllll. resetting the router usually consist of turning the router off (unpluging it). pressing the button resets the settings pop method. try unpluging it. and hopefully your connectong from either port 1-4 directy to xbox not from pc to xbox
