Hi, I have a used Cisco ASA 5510 firewall that I want to sell on ebay. However I don't know what are the specs of this device. What is the command I can use, when connected to it via a console cable, to view those specifications. Once I have that info, I can list the device so that I can sell it on ebay.

By the way, I also have a Cisco 2821 router. Please let me know if I can use the same commands to access its specifications. One final question, assuming that I don't have the username and password for both devices, how can I reset them to their Cisco factory defaults?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

"show version"

You can also Google "Cisco ASA 5510 datasheet" and that should get you the specs. The main thing is to check the memory. Earlier versions came with 512 MB of RAM while later versions came with 1GB, which is required to run 8.x code or newer.

Also, the 5510 has four FastEthernet ports, but two can be upgraded to Gigabit Ethernet with a security plus license, which is listed in the "show version" output.

You can do the same on the 2821.

For Cisco routers you have to 'console in,' change the Config Register, and change the enable/enable secret password. Once in you can delete/erase the Startup-Config and any other files not needed anymore. Not sure if an ASA box works similarly.

Try a "sh ver" to list the features.
