Firstly I don't have a huge grasp of how it all works but I would love to get a new ipod touch to use around the house. I have internet connection to my laptop but am not sure if I can create wifi from that or not (or if it is even worth it). I know that I'll need router but don't know if its easy/possible to set it up. I'm not incredibly tech savy so thankyou for any suggestions.

You need a wireless router. On your Ipod/Iphone/Ipad go to your settings and go to the Wifi section. Click the wifi network you want to join and start enjoying.

As for the Wifi hotspot, you would need a internet connection/cellular/data plan and set your Ipod/phone/pad to "Hotspot". Then any electronic that can hook up wirelessly could use your data. Careful though. if you pay for GB usage you may run over your limit if used a lot. Also, you can and probably should passcode your wifi network, but then I couldnt use your internet. :P

some people call me a free loader ^^^^ Hater above ^^^^ but my parents taught me, Sharing is caring, And i beleive most other parents did as well .

you will no longer locate that "unfastened" on living house windows i'd think of.... On Linux, you may probable locate some thing. What you're describing is a extra physically powerful end Linux firewall (pc based Linux router/firewall) with some consumer get right of entry to administration (consistent with hazard FreeRadius). maximum routers quite run some form of Linux besides.... yet for the reason which you have governed out Linux, be arranged to pay for a advertisement answer below living house windows...

Routers for wifi pretty much set themselves up nowadays with the software that is included. One suggestion is to make sure you set up encryption so that freeloaders and bad guys don't have access to your router.

Edit: I find it interesting that the guy below called me a hater and I answered the question BEFORE he did and BEFORE I saw his answer. I guess if the shoe fits, wear it. The only thing I hate is macs and anything having to do with the pretentious iDiots that use them.
