AT&T DSL, what modem+wireless should I get?

Question

I am planning to get AT&T DSL internet for my house. Looks like I need to get my own modem+ wireless router. I found 2 on the internet that I think may work, anyone has more experience than me on this matter.

However if DSL is all that is available in your area or the only broadband option that fits your budget then you'll have to go with it.

The newest DSL standard is ADSL2+, both devices you reference are ADSL2+ compatible, either would most likely work fine.

Last time my friend got DSL from them, they forced him to buy their modem/router.

Why in the world would you get DSL? It's much slower than any other technology currently available, i.e., FiOS, cable modem (from your cable provider), etc. The Verizon sales people I speak to don't even push that product anymore.



That being said, Verizon DSL generally uses it's own proprietary "modem" (you'd get that part from Verizon when you subscribe), to which you hook up your wireless router. As for the wireless router, any halfway decent consumer-grade model should work, I generally recommend products that you can upgrade the firmware to DD-WRT, since they offer much greater capabilities. I.e., the Linksys WRT54GL, Asus RT-N16, etc., all work with Verizon and support firmware upgrades. Shop newegg.com and read the reviews to get a better idea of products, but personally I've installed over a dozen of these two models of router with zero issues.

You have to call your provider and ask for the device compatibility list,not all are compatible.
