I'm working on an application that can detect if a connection to the port on a localhost address is blocked. Are there any 3rd party applications out there that can do this? I've tried Windows Firewall, Comodo, and Emsa Port Blocker, but they all block ports from the machine's IP address and not the localhost address (127.0.0.1).

Need more info, specifically what you are trying to achieve exactly or how it will be used.



IP 127. is not routable as it is special for localhost testing (self) so I am confused how you would need anything to test a connection. To block it you could just use the hosts file so that no attempt can be made to go any place but to self (a loopback).



Otherwise, you would need something like Panda Global Security (http://www.pandasecurity.com) or better yet, an external firewall with real support for "rules".



Have you considered the other concept though - Packet Filtering? There you could find absolutely anything happening on the wire in either direction no matter what. Optionally, would an external firewall work ( a dedicated box on your network )?
