The server is connected via the router. When the connection is lost none of the other four computers can connect to internet, although the server can. None of the other computers can connect to the server to run quick books.

This seems to happen randomly during the day. I have tired shutting down the server and rebooting, but it does no good.

Any body have any ideas on where to start to solve this problem?

Thanks

A static or dynamic public IP has absolutely no bearing on this.

I suggest you do the following:

1. Go to the Linksys site and see if there is newer firmware available for your router. If so, download it and upgrade firmware. The low end routers frequently have the problems you describe and oftentimes this is resolved via a newer firmware version.

2. Since you have a server (Windows Server I presume), I would have the Server provide DHCP services, not the router and I would make that change. The server should have a static LAN IP address that is not in the DHCP range. If you have a static public IP address, I would assign the DNS server IP addresses to the server, LAN port, not the router. If you have a dynamic public IP address, I would assign the router IP address to the DNS address on the server LAN port.

3. If the problem persists, replace the home grade router with one more robust. I suggest an Adtran Netvanta 3120 or a Cisco. They cost more but there is a reason - they work.

be confident you do not have a firewall up, yet be confident your computer has permission to connect on your router. in case you have a secured community connection (and you're able to) you have a key you're able to enter to get admission to the internet by using your community. attempt to quickly ignore approximately the different desktops and communicate approximately connecting yours with out changing your community call. in the experience that your call is distinctive that's going to see you as an interloper and not enable get admission to. i wish this helps! See the information superhighway sites under for greater help, they have a tendency to be conscious it greater effective than I do! solid success! =)
