I have a linksys router, and it works great. I have had it for 3 years, without any problems. Did you run the installation program, that you are going to use on the computer, that is going to be wireless? When you installed the router, make sure that you hold the reset button in, that is on the back of the router. It will reset the router, and clear everything out. Hold it in, with the tip of a pen, for 60 seconds. If that doesn't help. reboot the computer..good luck..

I had a problem with my Linksys router at first too. However after going to their site and it said it couldn't detect it, I figured out my problem. The wireless card in my laptop was installed and windowns recognized it but there is a small little button on the bottom left side of my laptop to turn on the wireless card. Once I did that I had no problems. Read the manual for your computer and make sure that card is on/active.

Well...first of all check if the router is connected to ur modem correctly. The cable from modem should connect to the back of the router which has a label called "internet or WAN". Try to unplug everything and plug it back again. Check if all the lights on the modem are proper. Then try the installation again...if it still doesn't work...try the manual method...i.e.

Click on Start...Go to RUN...Type in "CMD"......press enter.

U'll get a black command prompt window...go ahead and type in "ipconfig" and press enter....u'll get some info there. Go ahead and note down the DEFAULT GATEWAY...(its a set of number...something like 192.168.1.1).

Close all the windows...and open ur browser...e.g...Internet explorer...and type in the number u get for Default gateway ...on the address bar...and press enter...It should take u to the router homepage or it may ask u for an id or password....try to type in admin in the userid or password field...or if u have already given an administrative userid and password...go ahead and type that.

Now u'll have the Linksys home page. On the Left Hand side...top of the screen ...u'll find a option called "INTERNET CONNECTION TYPE"....next to that u'll have a drop down menu...go ahead and click on that and select....the option which u want...Most of the ISP require u to select the option called PPPoE. If so select that...and type in the userid and password provided by ur ISP....Then scroll down and click on save settings or apply...

Now...once on the Right hand side top of the screen... u'll have a tab called status...click on that...and see what u have next to connection status or under PPPoE. If it says connected then ur connected and good to go.

P.s. Make sure that u have the modem in bridge mode...

GOOD LUCK>

wow, loser answer Mrs. Ed. besides, first make positive you've cyber web coming to the cable you're plugging into your router. in case you do, then you're both doing something incorrect with the router setup, or it could be more desirable complicated than that. once you've a DSL modem, it needs to be in "conflict through" or "bridge" mode. that way the router can assign IP addresses because it pleases without conflict. and also you want to apply an Ethernet cable. it quite is the basically aspect which will artwork.

I have a linksys Router and it works fine. Customer support really helped me out because I couldn't get mine to work either. It turns out that I had forgotten my modem master password which is necessary for the set up. Good luck.

If it is not being detected it may not be connected to the computer with the right cable type. It should be a straight through cable.

Look at the plug. The wires should be in this order on both ends:

White Orange

Orange

White Green

Blue

White Blue

Green

White Brown

Brown

What is step 7? If you could provide me with a model number it would simplify things. The model number probably begins with "WRT". Also please provide more details about your original setup and the setup you are trying to make work.

You may need to call your Internet service provider and have them "re-provision" your cable modem. This is sometimes the case when everything seems to work but you can't connect to the Internet.

PS - Ignore those trolls that slander Linksys I have 3 Linksys devices on my desk and they have yet to fail me.

What type of broadband service do you have?

If it is ADSL, then you may need to program your PPOE username and password into the router.

Stinksys routers do bite the big one though. The person who suggested a cisco router above is on crack... Linksys is owned by Cisco... duh.

it's real finicky with what you have connected to it and when.... try following EXACTLY the steps they recommend on when to hook up stuff, and see if it works... I had similar problem when I had my printer connected the first time, and basically resolved it after removing printer during setup.

It's not a really good product...Maybe u should think about switching it with a Cisco/Juniper router...
