I am creating a forum hosting website, which will allow members to register for FREE ipb boards etc... however when trying to set it up via my database, it doesn't work :(

I get the following error:

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (46)

I get this when using "localhost" as the "SQL host"... I have been advised to ask for my FQDN for my site (http://theglobalforums.com) {MUST BE WITHOUT THE WWW. AS THIS LEADS TO ANOTHER SITE}

Can you help?!

Ask your host. When a server is setup the FQDN is put on the server. If www.theglobalforums.com and theglobalformus.com will not point to the same IP you will have troubles since most browsers will attempt to view these at the same.

Even worse when you lookup the A record for theglobalforums.com.. you have .148 to .153 as the A record..now if all those are the exact same server you may work but if any one is not on the same box you are not going to work. What is the server name

server1.theglobalforums.com ??

That is the FQDN by the way if you followed standards

Try using the loop back IP as the server in place of localhost and see if that works. (127.0.0.1)

Recommendations are in the source as per your request. Creating a website can be easy nowadays if the web host company provides you with existing self-installed scripts such as Wordpress, or any other content management system (cms). Usually large and long established web host company fives you that. Such softwares are free if you host with them. All steps on how to create your website are easy, self-explanatory and at times you are guided by online videos in your control panel (by web host company). I recommend you to search the list of really good, long established web host as rated and recommended highly by Professional Webmasters. Again, since you indicate your purpose of having the website is for business (and I believe you also mean long term), it gives you all the more reasons to host and build your website with long established web host companies. The website in the source provides you tips on starting your website and other guides as well.
