what does "Connection Timeout" mean?

i have a mac laptop and i was trying to connect to my friends network thing for internet, i mean she gave me the password for it so i could go on the internet at her house and so i typed in the right password and everything, but it just said "connection timeout" and i have no idea what that means....
can anyone help me figure this out? :) thanks :P

It means when your computer tried to connect, it got no response within a certain time limit, thus timed out.

Yes. It means that the connection between your computer and hers shutdown, probably because her end wasn't responding or accepting the credentials. Since you don't give any details about what kind of connection or what you were connecting to, that's the best I can come up with.
