I have a Pavilion dv6 notebook pc and i have windows but i tried to use backtrack 5 through vm player by making a virtual linux and it doesnt want to complete the command airmon-ng so i can hack wep encryption. there is something with the network adapter.it shows an hp integrated module under removable devices. and also i boot from a burned iso of backtrack 5. I want to make airmon-ng commmand work in the konsole. When i use it it leaves the chipset and the other two blank. What do i need to do to make it work or another way to hack wep encryption. I think it is something with the network adapter.
Other info
-backtrack version 5
-Disabled automaticly detect usb devices in vm player
-enabled nat in vm player
-when i try to enable the integrated module it says usb not detected or something
How do i make backtrack 5 work with adapter?
Do i need the actual linux?
can i hack wep with backtrack 5 another way under the same circumstances?
please help

Backtrack 5 works only with certain wireless adapters, not all of them. By the sounds of it, your HP has an unsupported wireless card.

You can run Backtrack 5 in a virtualbox.

It is like running a computer inside another computer. You can install virtualbox on any platform. This includes Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux.

This way, Backtrack 5 will use your wireless connection. Plus, you can be in two systems at the same time. It's kind of cool. You may have already used it. I'm just telling you in case you haven't.

If you want it as the only system on the machine, then you can still get a wireless driver for it. Look in the synaptic package manager and search for the name of the wireless driver that you need. You need a connection to do this, so make sure that you plug the network cable in. Mark the driver(s) for installation, then install them. Wireless with Linux does work on HP computers. I know that for a fact.

How do i make backtrack 5 work with adapter."

It does that because there is no driver for the NIC installed. In Windows, you usually get a disk that comes with your network card that contains the driver. In Linux, you need to install these drivers over the internet via synaptic package manager, terminal, or other methods.

You need to have drivers of network adapters and installed the proper driver in order to get the network adapter working on your computer.
