Need help with Wireless connection!?

After a reformat on my Dell Inspiron 1000 laptop, my laptop refused to connect to my modem. Before, of course, it was fine.

It uses a Dell 1350 Wireless card. It connects to my neighbor's modem just fine (just don't bother asking how I know that.) I do have all of my drivers reinstalled, except the USB drive, which my wireless card does not plug in.

It's a Westell 327-W Versalink Router. 802.11B and 802.11G? I don't know if that information is important.
MAC/IP Filtering is Disabled.

Anyone know what the problem may be, and how I may fix it?

I have the same model as yours! Try resetting it, this happened to me before. Use a pen to poke that small hole labeled "Reset."

EDIT: On the router there is the reset button. mattjirmanos, don't call me a retard.

BTW, mattjirmanos, what kind of advice is that? If he/she can't connect to the router, how can he/she access the router config page (192.168.1.1)? You are clearly the one who's retarded here.

The wireless zero turns off because the Dell utility is in charge of the card. You need to go into the dell utility and enter the security settings which match your wireless router. Your reinstall removed the security settings on the adapter and now it doesn't match the router. You can connect to your neighbor because they had a fool set it up and it's wide open to the entire neighborhood.

Hi,

just go to your router, and click the reset button on the back. You may also unplug it for 10 seconds, then plug it back in.

After you reset your router, reset your computer.

Then open Internet explorer and type this in:

http://192.168.1.1 if that doesnt work try

http://192.168.0.1

The username / password combination is usually one of these by default:

Admin / password

Admin / pass

Administrator / password

Administrator / pass

You should definitely be able to connect to your router this way.

Please don't listen to anybody else's advice on this. I don't know if their dumb or retarded, but it clearly says he can connect to his neighbors modem, so its obviously not a hardware problem, it lies in his wireless router, try my method, good luck.

yes, mac filtering should be disabled because it only messes up the connection, and it is more advisable to set up your wep key instead of mac filtering...

about the connection, try disabling wep first and try if you can connect,

if it still does not connect, try this:

(only if you're using xp)

go to the device manager and check network adapters and uninstall your wireless device driver, just hit ok for the warning message... then if the icon disappears from the network adapters list, click on "actions" then click on "scan for hardware changes"...

this method refreshes the connection

if it still does not work, try this :

go to control panel/network connections and right click your local area connection and open the properties window then click on the "internet protocol tcp/ip" then click the properties button just right below it (dont remove the check)

then make sure than both "obtain an ip... " and "obtain a DNS..." are selected ... do this method on the "internet protocol tcp/ip" of the wireless icon as well...

and of course, make sure that the wireless zero service has started

if it still does not work, it means that your versalink 327w, or your wireless hardware is not working or installed properly, so make sure first that your modem and wireless device is installe and turned-on properly ( and it is advisable to check for wired internet connection first)

trust me on this one, i work for verizon dsl..
