router trouble?

Question

i cant install my new router on2 my pc for some reason. i orginally purchased it for use on my 360, but then i heard that you had to configure it on ure pc before that.

when i connect it to my computer and try to connect to the internet. apparantly, i have to enter '192.168.2.1' into my web browser with the router connected to get the router to setup. but when i try 2 connect to the internet, i get error 633 'the modem is already in use or not configured for dialing out'. i have made sure that it is not on 'work offline' and still it doenst work

the router came with a cd, but when i click setup on the menu of the router page, it says 'call to GetAdaptersInfo failed'.

the router is an edimax AR-7084A wired.

i have also contacted the staff many times, and they have replied many times, but they dont know whats wrong.

please help me, all i want to do is install the router on2 my pc atm

That's really odd.

I'm guessing from the IP address you are in the States.

Normally you wouldn't have to access the router to get broadband. You just plug it in, wait for three or four minutes and away you go.



Personally I would ask to swap routers with a friend to make sure it is the router that is faulty/misconfigured.



The router is designed to get you out on the internet, it shouldn't be trying to deny you access. It could be (unlikely) your firewall but from the information given i would guess that the router is knackered or set up incorrectly.



If you go to Start

Run

CMD (enter)

then tap "ipconfig /all"

It should show you the IP address for your router/gateway.

In the UK it tends to be 192.168.1.xxx

If it is different to the 192.168.2.1 then use the one given to you by the computer.

here the problem is not specify by u, the pc is wireless or not, if the pc is not wireless all u have to do is connect the pc to the router and the plug&play utility software in yr pc will ask the connection wizard to incert the hardware drivers the cd, if that does not work, try to add the othe computer through a network , do this click start manu,control panel, network and internet connection,firewall, exceptions, files and printer sharing , restart pc.

it sounds as if your computer is dialling out from your previous modem....in internet explorer go to tools ....internet options...connections and put a tick in the box never dial a connection....then lan settings and put a tick in let windows manage my account....try the internet if it still doesnt work go to run type "ipconfig /flushdns" a dos box will appear and when its gone, in run type "cmd" a dos box will appear type "ipconfig /renew" this will allow your pc to renew the ip address and everything should be ok.....dont forget the space after ipconfig
