Can I connect to the internet with a 10/100 linksys switch by just connecting the cat 6 cable from the switch to the pc, or do I need a router (wireless connection)...Thanks

you can via a CAT5 cable (ithernet)
you can use a wireless modem router too

A switch can not route packets, you need a router, wired or wireless.
