you could have some issues with your firewall or internet properties setting check and see if you have the router listed.go to start, control panel, internet properties, connections and see if the router is listed. if not add it using the connections wizard. Also another thing is you can watch some videos on how to setup your router at

http://www.dlink.com/category/productcategories/?cid=1

and they also have this setup wizard available for you to use.

Here's the best way to do this. I will assume that you already have a modem from your Internet Service Provider (ISP), and that you're connecting this router to that modem.

Here's the support page for that model. Pick which revision you have and hit the proper link in the middle of this page. This will get you to manuals, etc.

http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DI-514&tab=3

1. First, before you connect anything, plug in the router and reset it to factory defaults. You probably already know this, but the reset button is in the little hole next to the AC adapter plug on the back of the router.

2. Now, keeping a copy of the manual handy, install the router with the modem and computers exactly as the manual describes. Don't skip any steps, do it one step at a time. I can guarantee that this will help you get it set up properly. You just need to do it from scratch as though you just opened the box.

3. When you do the setup, do it using a computer plugged directly into the router (desktop or laptop, it doesn't matter, as long as you use an Ethernet connection). Once you have this configured, configure the wireless features (including renaming the router's SSID and establishing some kind of encryption). Make sure you change the password to access the router's configuration utility, since anyone on the Internet could potentially log into it after it's up and running.

Here's the thing: when you set it up the first time, the old owner might have changed the settings of the IP address range, etc. Your computers just received IP addresses from the router and all worked well. Now that you've reset it, perhaps the hardware is confused because the IP addresses are different.

Whatever the case is, go back to the defaults on the router and follow the instructions in the manual TO THE LETTER. Trust me, it will work.

I would suggest to use a network cable for troubleshooting the problem. (Connect the computer on one of the port numbered from 1 to 4, and plug your modem on the port named Internet)

Once that is done, try to access the router configuration page by accessing the following address

http://192.168.0.1

If you have a connection, you'll get prompted with a username and password. The factory default settings are admin as the username and leave the password blank (or put admin if it doesn't work).

If it still doesn't work, try to do a reset on the router to fall back on the default settings, which you can reconfigure after.

At that point, check if your router have access to the Internet. To do so, click on the Status tab

(example of the page http://support.dlink.com/emulators/di524/st_devic.html )

There should a category WAN, with a line named IP Address. Make sure the address isn't 0.0.0.0, otherwise this is indicating that the network connectivity between the router and the modem is not established.

If that is the case, press DHCP renew to obtain an address from your ISP.

If it still doesn't work, try to turn off / unplug your modem and the router, and turn them on in the following order: modem / router / computer. That should fix the issue.

Once that is done, try to access the Internet from the computer you are troubleshooting from.

If it it working, you should then configure the Wireless security on your router to make sure nobody else except you can access it.

To do so, click on the Home tab, and go in the Wireless section (see example here http://support.dlink.com/emulators/di524/h_wireless.html )

Make sure you use the WPA-PSK security scheme and use a secure password (letter and numbers, lowercase and uppercase and if possible a symbol like @ or ! )

You will have to use this password to connect wirelessly with other computers (most Operating Systems allow you to save it so you won't have to retype it everytime you connect).

I hope my answer was clear enough.

When you reset a router it deletes the configuration details saved on it. You will need to re-enter and save this info again.

The procedure is as follows:

Once the router is connected to your computer, open Internet Explorer (or other web explorer you might have) and enter the following address:

192.168.1.1

and press the "Enter" key.

A small window will pop-up asking for "User Name" and "Password"

Enter "admin" for both which is the default for D-Link. For some routers, you have to enter "admin" and "password" for the 2 respectively.

If accepted, it will take you to the Router Control Panel, where you can run the setup wizard to configure your router again.

Please ask you Internet provider for more help if needed.

When you reset the router to default the SSID changed. And windows by default won't connect automatically. Bottom right corner of your task bar is the wireless connection icon right click on it and select view wireless networks and you should see a network something like dlink514 just click connect and when it balks at you click connect anyway.

you isn't waiting to try this, it is going to absolutely screw up your community and the routers will combat with eachother. the two routers prefer a WAN cord going into them, no longer LAN. So i think of you need to bypass with a instantaneous card
